As summer kicks off, so does National CPR and AED Awareness Week, observed every year from June 1 to June 7.
This important week shines a spotlight on the life-saving power of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillators (AEDs)—two critical tools that anyone can learn to use in a cardiac emergency.
Why This Week Matters
Every second counts during sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Quick action with CPR and AED use can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. This awareness week is all about making sure more people are prepared to respond with confidence and skill.

The focus is on educating the public about SCA and the vital role that bystander CPR and AED use play in survival. It’s a time to encourage more people—at work, at home, and in public spaces—to learn how to respond in an emergency. -

Organizations like the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Red Cross host CPR and AED training sessions, demonstrations, and community events. These programs are designed to help you feel ready to step in and save a life. -
Community Engagement & Advocacy
Communities nationwide use this week to advocate for broader AED access and to push for CPR training in schools, workplaces, and community centers. The more people trained, the safer our communities become. -
