How To Become an AHA Instructor

Medic Response Health & Safety and the American Heart Association are seeking professionals to conduct training in first aid, CPR AED, and advanced cardiovascular care.

If you are passionate about saving lives, motivated to facilitate learning, feel comfortable in group settings, and find it easy to make complex concepts understandable to others, you may be a perfect candidate!

Please include copy of your CPR, EMT and other certifications with your application.

  1. You need to complete an Instructor Candidate Application for the Training Center before enrolling in an AHA Instructor Course.
  2. Be accepted by a local AHA Training Center before enrolling in an Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center.
  3. Have current AHA provider status in the discipline for that Instructor Course and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline. Disciplines include BLS and Heartsaver. Provide copy of your current discipline. Please email copy of your current card to training@medicresponse.com with your application.
  4. Successfully complete the Instructor Essentials Course for the discipline for which you are becoming an instructor this is an online class with classroom/hands-on session.
  5. Successfully complete the Instructor Training course.
  6. Successfully be monitored teaching within 6 months of completing the hands-on session of their Instructor Essentials Course. Instructor monitoring can be done in our center or off site for additional charge. This could take several months to complete.

What do Instructors do?

AHA Instructors have an important job. Their responsibilities include:

  • Delivering standardized curricula
  • Working closely with students
  • Providing coaching and feedback
  • Validating skills practice sessions
  • Testing students and providing remediation
