Certification for Teachers in Virginia

Did you know that Teachers are required to have CPR AED and First Aid Certification in Virginia?

First Aid, CPR/AED Certification Mandated for Teacher Licensure/Renewal

Virginia requires all those seeking initial teacher licensure, license renewals and provisional teaching licenses to have documentation of certification or training in emergency first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

As of July 1, 2013 All Virginia teachers must have First Aid CPR/AED Certification.

According to the new law, the training shall be based on the current national evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care for CPR and the use of AEDs, such as a program developed by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
